too snarky? @ 09:33 am

Mood: aggravated aggravated

Do you think the following is a little too snarky to send in a maintenance request on the apt complex website?

For several weeks now, the light inside the common entry door has been out. Please replace it soonest. (aka - TODAY).

[[ If the light at the top of the stairs, outside our door, worked consistently, it fails to light intermittently, or if it was serviced during any one of the previous 4 times (over 3 months) I've asked the office and maintenance staff, I wouldn't have to ask about the light at the foot of the stairs... ]]

Thanks.

The parenthetical second request is too sarcastic to get its message across. Best rephrase:

"The light inside the common entry door has been out for weeks. The light at the top of the stairs outside our door still intermittently fails to light, despite my having requested it be repaired four times in the last three months. These are both safety issues that put residents and staff in harm's way and expose (building owner) to liability. Please fix both lights _all the way fixed_ immediately."

yeah, too snarky - gets accusatory and belittling toward the end, which is not persuasive, even if true.

Facts, firm, friendly, fair:

[friendly]"You inattentive bastards,

[facts]The light outside the common entry door is out, creating a significant hazard and liability, and needs to be replaced immediately, and cetainly no later than the end of next week, July 1st.

[facts]Please note that the light ourside my doorway also needs to be replaced or repaired. This is my third notice to you of this ongoing danger, first noted to you on MM/DD.YY.

[fair]I hope you agree that this is a fairly inexpensive and routine maintenance issue.

[firm/]However, having waited this long already for your action, I will seek additional remedy and cost recovery, if you cannot address this issue in a timely way.

[friendly]You bastards better bring me some light.

sincerely,
...

I don't think it is too snarky. The "please" saves you from snark.

Oh, wait. Is the part in double-brackets included? 'Cause, yeah: snark.

But, here's the deal: sometimes circumstances require a little bite to ensure the proper effect is conveyed.

I hope this worked out.

My running joke is, "Have you ever seen a tired, run-down, or exhausted looking Property Manager? Ever?!"
