NJ ez pass (NJ sleazy pass) @ 03:59 pm

Mood: bitchy We Are So not amused.

Hi Folks.

I haven't posted in a while and I just got off the phone with the Fine Folks at NJ sleazy pass. For the last couple of weeks, only on cold days, my sleazy pass fails to identify me for toll purposes and I get the message, go toll unpaid, when I approach the toll barrier getting onto NJ's Garden State Parkway.

Today, like the good citizen that I am, I called the sleazy pass service center at their 888 number, navigated the voice menu to find out that No Where do they allow for folks reporting a tag that has stopped working. There are options for lost or stolen tags, but none for, replace this POS because it's getting flaky.

So, I navigate to the lost/stolen tag menu option and press 0 for assistance.

Hello, my name is -blah- how may I help you.
Hello -blah- my ezpass seems to be having trouble over the last couple of weeks, on and off, I've been getting the message, go toll unpaid.

what is your account number?

what is your full address?

what is your pin

OK, which tag is it? Are you having trouble with the tag that came with the account?
-yes- tag# xxx645

Oh, OK, if it's starting to operate intermittently, the battery in the tag is probably going dead and we'll have to send out a new one.

We'll send it out today and it should reach you in 7 to 10 days.
-OK- Um, what do I do in the meantime?

you can keep using the current tag and we'll charge your account by license plate number.
hum, -OK- Um, what do I do with the old tag when the new one arrives?

you'll have to send it back to us to avoid getting charged.
-hum- so, you send a post paid mailer for the return?
No. you can send the pass back in the shipping material that the new one comes in and use parcel post or 1st class mail, but you may want to use certified with return receipt to be sure.

-hum- so I get to pay for the return of the defective tag?

is there anything else that I can do for you today.
(muttering) no. no. thanks.

Jeff, read your report just about 24 hours after having received an "official legal notice" from E-Z Pass, they claim I ran a $3 toll (probably the Ben Franklin Bridge between Camden and Philly) and then they added-on a $25 "administrative fee". Problem is, I have friggin E-Z Pass. They sent a photo of my vehicle from the rear, showing the license plate. Thanks folks...Yep, that's me.

Dispute it, tell then that you had the pass in the vehicle and what the pass number is, more then likely they'll waive the $25 fee. A guy I used to work with got a pile of those notices back when sleazypass started, the display would say go ezpass paid whether or not he had the pass in the vehicle and in all cases, for each day of about 4 weeks, he got a violations notice and a $25 charge, that he disputed each one and they removed all of them.

If you press it you'll probably find that the hardware at that toll barrier was not working properly for the time that you supposedly 'blew through' the toll.
