sad and depressing - office move 11/20/06 @ 04:39 pm

Location: office - 4m629
Mood: sad sad

I sit here in my office.

this afternoon I packed up all the stuff that made the office my office.  all the pictures, and the desk goodies and toys and calendars and stuff and it's in a box by the side the desk.

I've got a bunch of boxes of stuff that I'll need to have to work from home.  books, manuals, office supplies, etc.

I've got about 6 (long) boxes, currently, that I need to bring home tonight and put in storage until I get a chance to make room for the stuff that I'll need in the apartment.

I need to start ferrying the stuff out to the truck so that I can leave at a reasonible hour tonight.

have a good evening.

Re: Office Move

I haven't seen the new office. I've been to the building and the cafeteria is good and I kinda like the industrial - conduits along the walls of the corridors - college science lab building feel of many areas of the place. But, all I keep hearing is that the new office is very small and that it'll be cramped with two people and the stuff that we need to do our jobs will take away from the office space as is.

I've pared (sp?) down to the minimum that will need to go to the new office and the rest is getting tossed or brought home to the storage unit for further processing.

I don't feel all that good about the place.

Its far away, the commute will be a traffic blockade, the drivers in the area are rude and inconsiderate (considering the traffic problem - I don't actually blame them - but the area has an air of money about it and the people seem a little snobbish). That area of Jersey is split in two by route78 and there is practically only 1 or two ways to cross it and if you miss those crossings, you get to backtrack or go way out of the way to get to another crossing a couple of towns over, all while fighting major traffic.

The area is poorly designed and should be blown away and redesigned.

IMO - The company should give up the Murray Hill offices, sell the land to developers, probably get more $, even after cleanup, and keep the Holmdel building and site, it's better laid out and the researchers that are anchoring the company to the MH location are probably going to get chopped after Alcatel takes over anyway...

In summary, I'm not feeling all that good about the move or the company or its future, or my future...
